Small Spells
Small Spells is the art and healing practice of illustrator, certified hypnotherapist, and tarot scholar Rachel Howe, whose work has been featured in Vogue, Paper Magazine, and The Fader.
SCOPE: Creative Direction / Brand Strategy / Brand Identity / Website Design / Website Development
PROJECT OVERVIEW: This project called for a website that could intuitively showcase Small Spells’ many offerings — from Rachel’s illustrations and products to sessions in tarot, astrology, and hypnosis—while creating an experience that felt as playful and thoughtful as her work. The design solution was to build an expansive but easy-to-navigate site with clear entry points for all areas, guiding users through Rachel’s universe of art and healing. A fresh, contemporary layout combines structured sections with playful elements, creating a balance between visual interest and seamless functionality. Rachel’s illustrations are incorporated throughout the site to invite exploration and allow her work to shine. A streamlined booking system and built-in newsletter signup support her goals of growing engagement, boosting sales, and creating a space as lively and accessible as her brand.
CLIENT EXPERIENCE: “Working with Della was a pleasure! She gave my 10-year-old DIY website a much-needed re-design, and it came out looking just how I had imagined. The process was so easy, and I always felt totally listened to and seen. I was able to give all the input I wanted, and she incorporated all my abstract ideas in a streamlined and efficient way — she held my hand through the whole process while still allowing me to feel in charge of each decision. Aside from just being a gentle and sweet guide through the world of web design, Della also made me feel like me and my vision were always the priority. I trusted her to take my ideas and make them a reality, using her knowledge and design sense, and I couldn't be happier with the results. It's rare to find someone who is so talented in design and tech, who can also intuitively understand the vision of the client and translate it so well, while also making the process so easy and enjoyable!”
